Get Involved!

Volunteering, the Friends of the Library, donations.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of our Library.  If you enjoy books, computers and people you'll like working at the library as a volunteer.  We have lots of opportunities for folks who range in age from 13 to 80-something.

Opportunities include:
  • Helping with Summer Reading Program in June
  • Serving as a weekly volunteer (3 hours/week)
  • Mending books
  • Building maintenance
  • Sorting, pricing and selling books in the Backyard Booknook
  • Fundraising for our library addition
  • Contributing baked goods for events
  • Assisting with storytime preparation
  • Bulletin Board Art
  • Telephoning
  • Data Entry
  • Work on the Library website

Call the library, download an application for adult volunteers or teen volunteers, or e-mail Library Staff.

Donations of books, movies and recent magazines in good condition are gratefully accepted.  Those items not added to the library collection will be sold at through the Friends of the Library book sales or at our semiannual off-site book sales.  Half of all library book sale proceeds are donated to the Salado Education Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Salado Public Library  is a 501 (c) 3 organization created to support the library. The Friends are a forward-looking group of supporters who volunteer their time and talents in a variety of roles, who raise money through used book sales and acquisition of grants, and who encourage greater  use of the Library’s resources and programs.  Additionally, the Friends serve as advocates for the library as the library continues to serve the Salado community.  All members of the community are welcome to join (there are no dues).  An application form is available here or at the library.

The Friends of the Salado Public Library recruit 20 weekly volunteers, operate the Backyard Book Store, conduct programs and fundraisers and support the library in other ways as needed.

Last year the group raised over $1,000 for various library efforts.   Membership in the Friends is  free and automatically granted with a library card.  When you obtain a new or renewed card, fill out the attached postcard and check off ways you and your family might like to help.  The Friends will call you!
